Security Alert

Today I had to move a blog off of the MMO Blogroll, but not for the traditional reason of the blog going silent (or vanishing).

Tobold's blog was flagged by Bitdefender for being an infected website.

I checked the alert more fully, and yeah, there's a definite infection there:

Oof.

Alas that I'm unable to contact Tobold, since doing so would require me to visit his blog to then find his email, so I'm kind of stuck here. So, here's hoping that Tobold actually reads blogs and will find this. Or, if someone knows Tobold's email they can contact him about this.

  1. Thanks for the heads up though he wasn’t on my roll. I do read his stuff via Inventory Fulls helpful snippet roll though. Atheren

    1. Yeah, I can imagine. Even he's admitted that his readership has gone way down when he's gotten away from blogging about MMO topics.

  2. I did a full virus check after reading this, since I'd visited Tobold's blog a day or two previously, but it found nothing. I'm a bit nonplussed on how to check the current state of his blog without actually visiting it. I'm loathe to remove him from the blog roll without further evidence.

    1. Visiting his blog isn't triggering any of my own security, so it might just be a false flag. It can happen.

    2. Okay, I ran his URL through URLVoid and it came up clean on all sources so I'm going to leave it on the roll.

    3. Having had my own PC show up on those lists before, even a couple of weeks after whatever infection was cleaned up, it can take a while before you get off the naughty list.
