A Sunday Ponderable
Scenes like this in Winterspring remind me that going back in time in Star Trek became so easy that it became a low end joke among Trekkies.
In this case, the WoW equivalent is... if you run into a bunch of Queldorei in the middle of nowhere, odds are pretty good that there's at least one dragon among them. Or, looking at this screen cap, they all are...
![]() |
| "Well, they look like Queldorei to me." |
Makes you wonder if there are any Queldorei left in Azeroth, since it seems like they're all dragons in disguise.

The Most Important Test in Wrath Classic Beta -- The Winterfall Firewater Spellsteal Effect
After my little adventure in Winterfall Village on Cardwyn 1.0, I thought "Hey, maybe I should take Neve there!"
![]() |
| Yeah yeah yeah, I bet. |
And I took advantage of her fully accessible porting capability, and dropped in on Shattrath City with about 7 stacks of Winterfall Firewater...
![]() |
| "I AM-- Wait, where is everybody?" |
Alas, that it was on Myzrael-US post mass migration.
![]() |
| Those that were there seemed completely nonplussed when a giant Sindorei wandered into the bank. |
My questing buddy and I were in a Discord voice group with one of our fellow Monday raiders, and I mentioned to her about what I discovered up in Winterfall Village. I didn't tell her just what would happen, but I told her that she ought to drop by with her L70 Mage and see what happens when she tries Spellstealing from multiple Firbolgs there.
I then got to thinking. I have never seen anybody mention this thing before, so I had no idea if this was nerfed in Wrath or not.
Since I had access to the Beta for Wrath Classic, I decided to make a little side trip on Neve to Winterfall Village.

Neve lost a few stacks here and there, but still she had a decent amount when I reached the starting Horde location for the Wrath Beta test:
It was fun, but kind of unsatisfying. Like how you figure something cool out, but nobody really wants to share in your discovery. "Ho hum, another giant Sindorei. What a nothingburger."
And to be fair, each Spellsteal of Winterfall Firewater not only increases your size, it slows you down. After several stacks, your movements slow to a crawl, which drives me absolutely nuts. And where's the fun in that?
So... I can say that yes, Spellsteal does behave exactly the same way as in TBC Classic. But will I do it on a regular basis? Uh, no. I don't have a fetish for that sort of thing, and while it's kind of fun at first, it's... well... boring after a while. Okay, so I'm big. Now what? Well, not much.
I also must admit I like my Mages exactly the size they are. Nothing strange about that. Well, outside of the fact that they can wield the Arcane and throw fireballs around, but hey, that's an MMO for you.

Wowitshard, the YouTuber who made many WoW Classic videos, is back. And in a timely piece, entitled "Server Transfer", he's kind of defined the experience:

...To the Happy Home with Trees and Flowers and Chirping Birds...
This is a bit of an unusual post for PC, but I was inspired by conversation in the typically maligned* LFG Chat Channel. The other evening, I was on Neve, questing away, when conversation in Horde LFG Chat turned to music. I can't remember the exact exchange, but I think it involved someone saying "Who?" to a comment I made about how someone was almost as old as the Violent Femmes' first album.
"Please tell me you're joking," I replied.
"No, I'm not."
"Crap. I just suddenly felt really old." I reached into the back of my mind and tried to figure out what would be roughly a contemporary of the Violent Femmes, but would be lighthearted enough --and common enough-- to discuss in LFG.
And I struck gold.
"Instead of the Femmes, do you at least know of Doctor Demento?"
Now THAT got a conversation going.
First there was Napoleon XIV with "They're Coming to Take Me Away",
Then I mentioned "Rock and Roll Doctor", which is spoken word, but it rang a bell,
And then someone mentioned that they had that first song stuck in their head, so I countered with the Weird Al classic "Yoda",
Which inevitably led to The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins, sung by Leonard Nimoy...
"No, Spock! WHYYYY" was the response.
It's right up there with William Shatner singing "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds"
We kept on going for the next 15 minutes, covering a lot of ground, from The Frantics' Roman Numerals
to Polka-dot Undies, which sounds like a Bob Dylan song:
to the Chuck Berry classic, My Ding-a-ling:
I could have kept going for a long time. My roommate my freshman year of college used to tape Doctor Demento's radio show --we didn't have it locally-- so I used to listen to his tapes throughout my freshman year. Given the transition from high school to college was rough at times, being able to laugh was a premium.
Eventually the conversation switched to something else, but for a short period of time LFG Chat was glorious.
*And with good reason!!

Operators are standing by!! (Not really)
*Most people significantly younger than me will say "WTF is K-TEL?" Before the "Now!" series of compilation albums, K-TEL was in the business of selling compilation albums. They were (in)famous for their commercials and infomercials, which included the "Act now and you'll get XXX bonus materials!!" style of sales pitch, including "Operators are standing by!" To my surprise, K-TEL is actually still around, although without the influence they once had.
And before you ask, yes, this post was inspired by certain individuals --who shall remain nameless-- singing in our MC run last night.

This is Why I Don't Stream, Part Whatever
Oh sure, I've got a sense of humor about my limitations playing games, but this video illustrates perfectly why I don't do livestreams:
I really feel for the guy who was showing how to do a Slow Fall to get right to the Black Lotus location. I've done that exact thing and discovered too late that I don't have any feathers left.

"Greetings, fellow women!!
I too am woman!!
Let us speak of woman things, as I wish to do so!!"
::long pause::
"I hear that Theramore is ruled by a woman! Do you find this empowering?"
(EtA: For the record, this was not a planned shot. It just simply happened. And the woman dressed up like Whitemane was busy crafting, so I was lucky enough to get the screencap in between her crafting.)

You know you've become immune to video game bugs when...
That happened on LOTRO for me, with the Lothlorien quest (just north of the vinyards) to admonish the Elven revelers who have... imbibed... way too much.* I read the exclamations above the revelers, and at first thought that those who actually said something were the ones who need to be admonished.
One try disabused me of that idea.
Then the next try I noticed the slurred or mispronounced words. Surely, I thought, they could have gotten a better QA person to fix this.
Then....
OH! THOSE are the people I need to admonish!
Excuse me while I go and imbibe a little, myself...
*Seriously, with three weeks to go before the 2016 US Presidential Election, I think I'll be doing the imbibing along with the NPCs.
