When Life Hits you in the Head

Well, the news broke a couple of hours ago on Monday that one of my coworkers and acquaintances for a decade or more had passed away. I'd not heard much from him over the past decade or so, but he was always kind of private that way, so I never worried about him or anything.

But I wasn't expecting that I'd hear today that he'd passed away from advanced dementia at the age of 67.

I never realized he was that much older than me; I always thought he was about 5 years or so older, but...

This is going to take some time to process.

  1. Sorry to hear about that. 😞 You don't tend to think of people getting dementia as young as 67...

    1. I think the most shocking thing about his death was that it tied back to dementia. Just like congestive heart failure, we tend to think of dementia as an "old person's disease", and as lifespans have increased over the past century or more the idea of being "old" keeps getting pushed back. (The Who's My Generation and "Hope I die before I get old" notwithstanding.)

A fellow coworker who'd retired about 4 years ago and I are going to get together for lunch in a day or two, and since he was part of the team our friend was on, I know we're going to have a lot to talk about.
