Practicing Acts of Random Kindness and Senseless Beauty

The other day I logged into my Orc Shaman and noticed a mail icon was up. I wondered if that mysterious person who'd whispered "I see you" was back, but no, it was someone else:

Well, whaddya know...

Whatever I might have been expecting, it certainly wasn't this.

The person had sent along some silver, a couple of health potions, and some Smoked Sagefish (provides a buff for casters such as Mages, Warlocks, and Shamans).

I was really touched by this act of random kindness, and I in turn sent a few items along with some silver to someone I randomly saw in The Barrens.

It felt good to be reminded that there are caring people out in the world, especially in a game and genre kind of infamous for bad behavior by players.

  1. Over Christmas, I logged into one of my alts in Season of Discovery, and someone in Thunder Bluff just randomly handed me three runecloth bags. Always nice to see random acts of kindness like that.

    1. After I wrote this post and set it to launch, I was fishing on Card last night when a random toon fishing nearby just opened up a trade bar and began handing me fish to use. "I got to max on fishing right now, so here you go!" they said. And I in turn began giving murloc eyes away to people in Westfall, because it was only after I had turned in that quest did those eyes start dropping in abundance.

    2. Back in the olden days, this sort of thing used to happen a lot in most of the MMRPGs I played. Sometimes it was really sweet but other times it could become quite annoying, especially when someone would insist on following me around and "helping" while giving advice. I haven't had it happen in a long time in any game but then I don't play as many new characters as I used to. It was always in the starting and low-level zones it happened.

    3. I did have someone give me a bunch of stuff in a mid-level zone back in 2009; they were quitting WoW and they were giving stuff away rather than letting it stay in a bank. But yeah, it mostly happens in the low-level zones.
