Okay, I still haven't figured out how to post the video like you can with YouTube --and I blame poor tools by Blogger here-- but here's a link to our K'T kill, as streamed by Mirsh.
It's also nice to know I'm not the only one who curses while raiding. Good thing the kids are much older, or I'd go crazy trying to censor myself. But somewhere, I think my Grandfather would be proud of me for cursing as much as I do.*
I've always wondered how I sound in raids in Discord, and now I know. You can hear me at the tail end just before the kill saying "We've got him!! We've got him!!"
I can't help but confess that I was focusing on where I was on the screen, hoping that I don't look too much like an idiot. I can't stream, because if I did you'd see my head was on a swivel, constantly looking for those banshees as they bore down on us. And it's not a lot of fun once you hit Phase 2 and you're trying desperately to conserve as much mana as you can for sheeping while wanding and pacing out your potion consumption.
*A quick story about my Grandfather. During WW2, he and several other people in his division were promoted to Corporal. As they all stood in line, a Captain marched up and down saying "I made you, and I can break you." My Grandfather, never one for tact, piped up and cracked, "If that's the way you feel about it, you can shove it up your ass!!"
My Grandfather was busted back down to Private quicker than you can say WTF...
EtA: Fixed the link. Whoops.

zzzz I've been sick all day. That's not right, above. Doh.
ReplyDeleteJust copy paste the code from youtube into your post, it should show up properly.
Oh yeah, I can do YouTube. But Twitch? That's a different story.
DeleteAnd I hope you feel better?
I hope you feel better!
DeleteShould have been an exclamation point there, but Iz tired after raiding.
Congratulations! Maybe I feel just a little regret never having caught up to the raids I didn't do in vanilla (BWL, AQ40, Naxx)...
ReplyDeleteI think that if you do Retail WoW, the fights themselves are more complex than anything in Vanilla. For Vanilla, it's the coordination that is the harder part. But I will say that Naxx is the closest to Retail in terms of complexity and player skill, and without the strats on YouTube and elsewhere it would be a LOT harder than it is now.
DeleteBut one thing that I've found --at least on Myzrael's Discord-- is that the guild leaders and raid leaders do talk among themselves --even between factions-- about raid strategy. Nobody hoards their knowledge like it's some precious document, because even the sweatiest guilds on Myzrael want people to experience the most out of Classic.
(And apparently Nox Terrorem wants all of the Alliance to experience a Horde raid on Ironforge or Stormwind. It's actually a running joke that if you see one "Stormwind is under attack!" it's a head reset, but if you see two or three its a "Oh, I guess Nox is paying us a visit tonight....")
Yeah, we were utter noobs and horrible players when we did AQ20 and ZG, I'm pretty sure. But when we came to Black Temple I want to imagine we had learned a thing or two.
DeleteI'm not really mad I'm not experiencing it, but would've been nice to see a proper progression 40 man raid with current tools and mindsets and not 20 people half-afk. I think the engagement rate of classic players is indeed higher than back in original MC pre-damage meters.
Congratulations again! Why is my heart pounding like I did it. I even get nervous when I'm not even there. ToTA
ReplyDeleteThanks, Ancient!! And I'm sorry that for some reason you're having trouble posting; I swear I haven't changed anything and I checked the spam logs just in case.
DeleteSeems to like me as anonymous so I'm not going to fight it!
