You know you're in the depths of Winter when you kind of start wishing it were warm outside.
Okay, for a person --like me-- who prefers Fall and Winter, you can reach your breaking point sometime after mid-January when the unceasingly gray landscape starts to get to you. So, here's some memes to break up the monotony:

That's pretty accurate, but in my case my wife would use that as a prelude to shoving me off the bed in her sleep. Yes, I've woken up on the floor before. From thefunnyplace.net. |

We're in our second extended period of sub-zero temperatures here, although of course that means just barely below freezing overnight. I have to say that, while the cold does wear on my patience after a while, it's infinitely preferable to the weather we had inbetweeen the two cold spells, which was perpetual rain and cold, blustery wind. At least when it's cold we can walk across the frozen fields. Beryl the dog loves the cold but she hates the rain so much she literally refuses to leave the house for longer than the absolute minimum she can get away with, which means she gets cabin fever and has to be entertained indoors instead. Cold, dry, sunny days like today are a positive pleasure in comparison.
ReplyDeleteIf it's cold and crisp I don't mind it nearly as much as I do the rain, either. For some reason, rain in the winter tends to come from the East, which is a problem for us as the East side of the house is where the cracks in the basement are. So when we get rain in the winter, I have to spend a lot more time down in the basement making sure we're not having water down there.
DeleteThe unrelenting gray skies can wear on a person, even without Seasonal Affective Disorder. But a dog is that bright ray of sunshine that makes all those days brighter!
And oh look, we're going to get another 4-6 inches (10-15 cm) of snow starting at Midnight tonight. Right about the time the birds outside will have plowed through the seed in the feeder.
