WillE is but one of the creators that's really on board with Classic Plus, but I keep wondering if we're misreading the tea leaves.
Here's the biggest clue that we might get Classic Plus, which was leaked back in 2025 and got a lot more scrutiny once more in 2026:

Here's the thing. This looks interesting on the face of it, but until the collaboration between WotC and Blizzard was announced (it was leaked last week), nobody had a clue that D&D and WoW were going to join forces in the first of a series of crossovers.

And oh look, that D&D World of Warcraft splatbook is coming out on November 17, 2026, which closely aligns with that Project Camelot release date up there as well.
So.
Was this what Project Camelot was all along?
Hell if I know, but it wouldn't shock me if we were all wrong and it wasn't Classic Plus but a tabletop version of WoW that we got instead. I mean, it wouldn't be so bad from my perspective as a tabletop gamer, but I'm sure that it wouldn't go over well with others in the online community.
I guess we'll find out.
And for the record, I think I like the "regular" splatbook's look over the fancy version:

I mean, everything on the leaked slide is about video games, which this isn't, and the "Project Camelot" dot is on the Classic line, which again, this isn't. I've seen some wild Classic Plus theories but this probably has less to go on than any others I've seen!
ReplyDeleteHonestly, until Classic Plus is announced --and by that I mean a change to Vanilla where there's a formal deviation from the Warcraft Timeline-- everything speculative is on the table. If there's a new raid or three tacked on after Naxxramas, it's not the same as "The Dark Portal never opened". If it's another Seasonal server, it's also not the same as Classic Plus either.
DeleteAnd looming over all of this is the specter of another 1600 layoffs to XBox in the next several months. For everybody who says that the Classic team is so small that they won't be a layoff target, I'd like to introduce you to my decades of service in IT. If I had a dollar for every time someone got laid off that was the only person who knew how to do something or was on a low cost/high return project, I would be in a higher tax bracket right now. If the WoW team is forced to choose who to let go, they'll protect Retail because it's their cash cow.
That being said, something is better than nothing, and until we see what they have in mind it's all speculation. What I suspect, however, is that we won't get what we think we're going to get.
Well, there are so many different expectations floating around, you'll be able to say "it's not what people thought" regardless of what it turns out to be, as there are lots of thoughts floating around that will be bound to be wrong.
