It's Been a While

I feel like I've been here before.

Tonight will be almost nine months to the day that I was last in a progression raid.

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't nervous about tonight's raid.

I just want to be good enough that I won't embarrass myself.

  1. Can the Wrath version of Naxx really be called progression? I think you said that there was already a raid that you missed out on, didn't they clear everything?

Either way, let us know how it went. 😉

    1. After having been inside Wrath's Naxx, it truly feels weird to have a "less than" experience there.

But aside from that, I thought they'd cleared all of the Phase 1 raid content, but I found out over the weekend that apparently they didn't do Eye of Eternity. Of course, Vault of Archavon is entirely dependent on who wins Wintergrasp, but given that the ratio is something like 4:1 Ally on Atiesh-US, it's pretty rare when the Alliance loses.

I've experienced that before, in original Wrath on Area 52-US, where the ratio was 10:1 Horde, so I can see whatever Horde on Atiesh-US just up and leaving for a regular shot at VoA. After all, people leaving PvP servers for friendlier shores has pretty much been a thing in TBC Classic.

    2. I think faction balance doesn't matter for VoA access anymore? As they changed Wintergrasp to be an instanced battleground for Classic and battlegrounds are cross-server. And then everyone gets access to Vault of Archavon if at least one person on the server has been in a winning battle, which means it should be open 24/7. See here.

    3. I'll be honest in that I didn't pay attention to Wintergrasp for this expac; I saw that we constantly got the buff and I thought "Poor Horde." And the RL last night said "Well, if we get access to VoA we'll go," so I took it to "We'll see if we win Wintergrasp."

At 25, yes, at 10, no. This was the inherent issue with the 10/25 split all the way till Flex comes in with the last MoP patch and even that seems to take tuning. They simply can't balance the two modes in a way that makes them feel "equal"; either 10s feel too easy and 25s too hard, or vice versa. The fact that 10s became the default for so many guilds in Cataclysm only bodes poorly for the inevitable Classic Cata.

    5. I presumed that 10s became the default simply because it was easier to find bodies for 10 person raids than 25. It could also be an aftereffect of the carnage inflicted on guild rosters from ICC.

    6. All of that *and* the fact that come Cata, 10 and 25 dropped identical ilvl gear. Why bang your head against the 25-man recruiting/attendance boss to even get into the raid instance when you can grab two 5-man dungeon groups and go, till you get burnout.
