Okay, who thought this all the way through?

There's a lot that's interesting about the Elsweyr expac for Elder Scrolls Online, but one big part of the expac is, to be quite frank, a head scratcher: the new class, Necromancer.

It was as if the devs had never heard of the Main Questline, or Molag Bal for that matter.

I mean, the devs do know that you're fighting the undead (among other Daedric nasties), right? Why on earth would you want to create a class that is exactly what you are currently trying to remove from Tamriel?

And what would the (so-called) "Good" Daedric Princes (among them Meridia and Azura) think about your devotion to re-animating corpses?

At least if you cast Necromantic spells in cities you're going to run afoul of the law, but that's a minor consolation to throwing a monkey wrench to the entire game's storyline.

  1. I haven't played any of ESO (only a bit of Skyrim) but maybe they are trying to give you an option to be sort of on the bad side? Depends on how they've implemented it of course, I find it hard to believe that any town would want to take in a Necromancer for instance.

    1. I was wondering whether Zenimax/Bethesda was going for an anti-hero, but your Main Story doesn't have that many choices in place to potentially be an anti-hero. Unless the devs go for a major rewrite of the Main Quest (and a lot of the side quests as well).

      Personally, I can appreciate an anti-hero option more than the goody-two-shoes that you are frequently given as lines. And that's coming from someone who used to play Paladins and Clerics in D&D.

    2. They probably just wanted to give you options and didn't think people would worry about the lore-ramifications. Why do they never realize that those things matter, -especially- in an MMO.

      That's what still drives me nuts about Cataclysm. How could Blizz not realize that changing the Old World wouldn't have an impact for new players?
